2120 South Michigan Avenue

MVI 5652

2120 South Michigan Avenue plays the real deal Chicago blues. Its name is the hallowed address of Chess Records in Chicago, the studio where Muddy Waters, Little Walter Jacobs, Sonny Boy Williamson, Etta James and other great blues artists recorded the songs that form the backbone of the band's repertoire. 2120 also plays some Memphis and Texas blues, a smattering of R&B songs – and a couple of oldtime rock and roll hits just for fun.

Inspired by the memory of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, bandleader Charlie Sawyer started 2120 in 1998 to keep the repertoire of this harmonicainfused urban blues alive. The band has done several Butterfield tribute concerts in NH and Massachusetts featuring Mark Naftalin, Butterfield's original keyboard player – most recently a 2012 show at The Firehouse Center in Newburyport.
